Looking For A New Theme For Your Site?
This month we deprecated a number of older, rarely-used themes and added seven modern and exciting ones. The Commons tries to limit WordPress theme choices to around 50 themes so that our Dev team can more easily manage their updates and monitor any vulnerabilities.
If you have a particular theme you want, we can install it on your site only. You will then be responsible for keeping it up to date. A premium theme is fine, but you or your organization will need to purchase it and provide the zip file and any necessary license information.
Below you will find our new themes with brief descriptions. You can demo a theme by clicking on the button below each one, or preview it on your site by going to Appearance>>Themes, mouse over the specific theme, and click on Live Preview. This will provide an idea of what your site will look if the theme is activated. Live Preview will not show a theme’s new patterns, blocks, and customization possibilities.
We hope you enjoy checking out these new themes!

Full Site Editing Themes
Full Site Editing (FSE) themes are the most modern and experimental of WordPress themes. FSE themes let you edit the underlying templates which display your content. The Site Editor is still in Beta, so be forewarned that the interface might require a bit of patience. But Full Site Editing is exciting step forward for WordPress, and may eliminate the need for page builders.
On the Commons we now have three FSE themes:
- Twenty Twenty-Two
- Raft
- Aeonium
Raft Theme
Raft comes with the a number of new patterns and the option to use the “Otter Blocks” plugin, which adds a number of interesting blocks. (Otter Blocks is a new plugin, and is available no matter which theme you use.)
You can implement global styles to create perfect color combinations and easily switch back and forth to find you or your organization’s favorite scheme.
Aeonium Theme
Aeonium is mostly a “dark” theme, meaning that it is designed with a dark background and light foreground. It is a FSE (full site editing) theme. It offers six different color palettes, including one “light” color variation.
There are a number of patterns available, and you easily switch background and accent colors.
