Commons Team Develops New Digital Research Tools Plugin

dirt8The CUNY Academic Commons collaborated on an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant  to make  Berkeley’s Drupal-based Digital Research Tool repository (DiRT) accessible to other WordPress sites via custom-built APIs.

The Commons was the pilot site for this project, and members can now tap into DiRT without leaving the Commons.  Follow this link for more information on how to use DiRT on the Commons to collect tool usage information, share experience with particular tools and search its rich repository.

Our portion of the grant involved developing a WordPress plugin to enable sites running the Commons In A Box to implement DiRT functionality.  The plugin is free and publicly available on the WordPress Plugin Repository. Texas DH Consortium has already activated this plugin, and nycdh.org will activate soon.  The new plugin will soon be included as an optional plugin in the Commons In A Box.

We hope you explore how groups can use this optional feature to discover and compare digital research tools, register usage, and share best practices.
