With the end of the year fast approaching, we’re pleased to announce the final stages of a project many months in the making – in mid-January 2025, the Commons will migrate to Reclaim Hosting.

Reclaim has been a go-to hosting provider for educators and institutions since their founding in 2013. They are also dedicated members of the open-source academic community and longtime supporters of our mission at the Commons. We’re very excited to be officially joining forces.

We think our users will be excited about this shift as well. Many of you have no doubt been affected by the increased Commons downtime and slowness in recent weeks. We are so sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. As we prepare for the migration, we will continue to maintain our current infrastructure, especially with the busy end of the semester approaching. Once our migration to Reclaim is complete, we are very confident that the Commons will be more stable and better equipped for continued improvements that serve the CUNY community.

Please watch this space for further updates early in the new year. If you have any questions or issues in the meantime, you can always email our support team.

Join Us for a December Community Meeting!

Moving forward, as we make changes and introduce new features to the Commons – a process that our development team works on throughout the year – we’d like to stay in better touch with our members to share project updates, hear feedback, and to foster connection among users of the platform. We’re happy to announce the first Commons Open Community Meeting, of a series of semi-annual meetings we plan to host in December and May. Our first Open Community meeting will take place on Friday December 13th from 1-2pm Eastern (click this Zoom link to register). Our spring meeting will take place from 1-2pm on May 9th, registration link here. We hope that you can join us!

We will use these meetings to provide insight into our development process and roadmap, to gather feedback and answer questions from the community, and to feature short presentations from Commons members making innovative use of the platform.  We also hope these community meetings will support collaborations across campuses and foster connections between the robust open education infrastructure ecosystem we have at CUNY.

Happy holidays, and hopefully see you soon! Thanks so much for all that you do to support the Commons.
